About us

From the Past to the Present

In the beginning there wasn’t any School of Secondary status in the whole of Katukuru  and many children of Secondary School
going age whose Parents were not economically strong enough to take them to far Secondary Schools or who were not exposed enough to know that completing Primary Education was not the end of the academic road lived in academic quagmire. It was not until three and a half decades ago that the area was blessed with the first born child St Peter’s.

By Gods grace in February 1982 St.Peter’s Secondary School- Katukuru opened its gates to Students with the Late Nyakwenegura Paul and the Late Bwanika Edward as pioneer head teacher and PTA chairperson respectively.

From the records obtainable from the school archives, the following persons and many other Men and Women and lovers of enlightenment not mentioned here played a big role in the inception of this great school. On the frontline was Mr. Francis Mwebesa who mooted the idea of starting a community based Secondary School, the Late Mzee Ntaama Joseph who benevolently provided the most important resource the “Rock” on which Śt.Peter’s majesticaly stand up to this very day, the Late Bishop John Baptist Kakubi the then Bishop of Mbarara Diocese who gladly blessed the idea of starting the School on a Catholic Foundation hence the name St.Peter’s, Messrs Nyakwenegura Paul (R.l.P) and the Late Bwanika Edward pioneer head teacher and PTA chairperson respectively. Mr. Kasundo Bonefence and the late Petero Kazahura are appreciated for their long dedicated service to the school as PTA Chairpersons.

The cause of the origin of this school is clearly imbedded in the School Mission which is to train students from the area and beyond to become future responsible citizens ready to serve their mother land with diligence wherever they
would go to serve. The schools motto tells it all “Learn to be“.

From a very modest start of less than fifty purely day students and wanting School structures in 1983, the school has grown
by leaps and bounds over the years in terms of enrolment, infrastructure and academic performance courtesy of resilient
successive head teachers, Board of Governors, Parents, staff, students and the unwavering support from the Catholic Church and the Government of Uganda.
The year 1995 saw the School being upgraded from an’ O’level Day Mixed Secondary School to an “A” Level Day and
Boarding Mixed Secondary School and in May of the same year 10 girls and 17 boys enrolled in senior five for Advanced Level Studies. From then, the academic performance of the School at both levels continued to improve with each passing year and the schools’ Alumni can be found in all walks of life the world over.

Special thanks to all gallant Men and Women that have kept the candle burning for the last 41 years of the School’s existence. Former head teachers Messrs Nyakwenegura Paul (R.I.P), Bwire Rwasa Barrow, Tumusiime Deus, Bafanabyo Santos Yeri, Natumanya Venance, Tumusiime Grace their effort was not in vain. Mr Rutehenda Deus. R the incumbent head teacher deserves a big pat on the back for the academic and discipline endeavors he is undertaking. The journey is still on, but the destination is in sight and we shall undoubtedly reach the Promised Land. The sky is the limit.
